Col. Abel Walker

Born Groton MA 20 April 1734, son of Seth and Eleanor (Chandler) Walker. Married 26 February 1767 Elizabeth, widow of Phineas Graves, daughter of Isaac Parker Jr. and Mary, of Groton MA. Settled in Charlestown NH (No. 4). Captain (later Colonel) of the Charlestown militia. Led the Charlestown company under Gen. John Stark at the Battle of Bennington 16 August 1777. Also fought in or supported the unsuccessful 1775 expedition under Gen. Arnold to Quebec. Postwar he kept the principal inn/house of entertainment in Charlestown, host to Gov. John Sullivan and the NH Legislature in September 1787 and to Judge Daniel Jones, Judge Bellows, Simeon Olcott, and other circuit-court luminaries. Saunderson 1876 calls him 'one of the most prominent and esteemed citizens of the town.' Father of Phyla Walker who married Aaron Dean. Three of the Walker name served in his company at Bennington. DAR Patriot Ancestor A120940 confirms NH service: Lieutenant Colonel, also Captain, Major, and Colonel under Bellows. Death date per DAR: 11 March 1815 Charlestown NH.

On 5 June 2026 we ran the Hindman family lines against the DAR Genealogical Research System. Four ancestors returned exact-match Patriot Ancestor records. Brant qualifies for Sons of the American Revolution membership through any of them.
