Born 14 February 1721 in Derry, Clondermot, County Londonderry, Ireland (the same Ulster county as Brant's Hindman ancestor Rev. John Hindman). Father: John Ewing (72 at the time, a notably elderly father). Mother: Jennet McElvaney (58). Emigrated to colonial Virginia as a young man. Settled in the Augusta / Greenbrier frontier. Served as CAPTAIN in the Augusta County Virginia Militia during the American Revolution — **DAR Patriot Ancestor #A038071**. Six children including John 'Indian John' Ewing (b. 27 December 1747 Orange County VA, which became Culpeper). Wife disputed historiographically: 'Margaret Sargent' was explicitly discredited by A.E. Ewing in 1939 ('I have never been able to find the name Sargent on any Virginia list'); 'Sarah Mays / Mayes' is the alternative candidate, matching our FamilySearch extraction. No marriage record has been found. Died 31 May 1801 in Greenbrier County, Virginia (today's West Virginia), age 80. Buried Virginia.
